Virgin Hair Textures: What's The Difference?

So you love to wear hair extensions? But now there are all of these selections and you just don’t know what to choose. Nowadays you have Indian, Brazilian, Malaysian, Peruvian, Cambodian, Mongolian, and many other nationalities and textures of human hair.  Let’s just start off defining virgin hair. Virgin hair has never been processed or treated with any chemicals. The cuticles run in the same direction.  You can bleach, dye, straighten, and or curl the hair just as it is your own. And now for some of the most popular textures:

Brazilian hair is the most sought after hair on the market. This hair is widely used by various nationalities because of its softness, longevity, and thickness. The texture easily blends with African American relaxed hair and some Caucasian hair grades. Due to the thickness of Brazilian hair, you may not want to install as many bundles to complete a whole look. With this hair, less is more. The great part Brazilian hairis also less likely to frizz in humid conditions. Brazilian hair also holds curls and styles longer than Indian and Malaysian hair.

Indian hair is the most versatile texture on the market. The hair is very fine, light, and can be easily curled and styled. It blends well with almost all hair textures. Indian hair structure can be found ranging from silky to lightly course and is very sensitive to humidity.

Malaysian hair has become very popular among celebrities due to it being very low maintenance. This hair has upscale look and feels silky. It has a similar luster to Brazilian hair and holds curls very well without the heavy use of hair care products. This hair blends very well with African American hair textures. Malaysian hair is not sensitive to humidity and does not easily frizz or swell.

Peruvian hair is very light and extremely soft. This hair has a slightly courser texture than Indian and Brazilian hair. It can blend very well with relaxed African American and medium Caucasian hair textures. Due to its feather like state, you may want to install more bundles to complete a whole look.

Remember when making your selection the best way to achieve a natural look is to choose a texture that best matches you own. If you need any help consult a professional cosmetologist to help you decide.

Hair & Skin 911: Organic Oils Does a Body Good

We all search for cures of the things that ail our hair and skin. During life’s journey there are natural body disasters that life imposes on our bodies such as stress, eczema, dandruff and the list goes on and on.  As we age our skin begins to stretch and blemishes began to appear. Let’s discuss a few organic oils that are heaven’s little cure all for our hair and skin.

Olive Oil is vegetable based oil that is derived from olives usually originated off the Mediterranean coast of Greece. It is widely used in hair and body products as a moisturizer, exfoliate, and a key source of protein for our skin. Olive Oil is a great source of vitamins A, D, K, and E which makes it essential in fighting skin disorders such as psoriasis and acne. It is a well known and widely used home remedy for dry skin repair.

Coconut Oil is a personal favorite and great moisturizer for your skin. It comes in pressed and processed form and both can be used for your skin and hair. It is anti-microbial which makes it perfect to treat skin conditions that are caused by fungi and bacteria. Coconut Oil helps soothe itchiness and dryness as well as smooth blemishes left by acne. It is soft and smooth’s easily and leaves skin satiny to the touch. You can also use it as a conditioner after your wash your hair, which leaves a pleasant and delicious scent.

Grape seed Oil is pressed from the seeds of grapes and is commonly used in cosmetics. It is light and thin but high in lipids. This oil works excellent in a daily acne treatments because it is very light and does not clog your pores. It has antioxidant and inflammatory properties. One of grape seed oil’s best properties are that is an astringent which is useful in skin toning and tightening.

Castor Oil was one of my grandmother’s favorite oils. I would call this oil nature’s Robitussin. Castor Oil can be used on skin, hair, and for medicinal purposes. She has used it as a moisturizer on our skin and often times on our hair to help treat dry scalp and split ends. It does not have the most pleasant taste or smell but it works wonders. It also commonly used in lip balm and lipsticks to help moisturize your lips and increase shelf life.

Soybean and Macadamia Oil are both great moisturizers. I would like to first say that if you are allergic to peanuts I would not suggest you using macadamia oil. Soybean oil reduces blotchiness in skin appearance, evens skin tone, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.  It also is not irritating,  so it is excellent for people who have sensitive skin.  Macadamia Oil is derived from the macadamia nut and is an emollient. It can be used alone as a natural alternative to skin care products. It has a delightful smell but very light, perfect for an individual that does not like heavily scented cosmetic products.

There are a lot of other natural and organic oils that are used in skin and hair products. Make sure when you purchase these oils they are raw or unprocessed with no additive ingredients. Remember knowledge is power, and the more you know the better you can care for your hair and skin.

Human Hair Extensions vs. Synthetic Hair Extensions

With all the rage about hair extensions, it is nothing more wonderful than being able to transform your hair from short to long in a matter of moments. But wouldn’t you like to know exactly what you are spending your hard earned income on? Remember, knowledge is power, so it is important to stay informed, especially if you are addicted to hair extensions.

SO let’s start with synthetic hair extensions. Synthetic hair extensions are cheaper and do not last as long as human hair extensions. These hair extensions also do not look as natural as human hair extensions. They are produced with man-made fibers and have an artificial looking shine. They also do not have a natural flow and bounce. Usually, you can only install and wear them once for maybe one to three months. Most synthetic hair extensions cannot withstand heat, so you can cancel curling or straightening them. Make sure you match them up correctly to you natural hair because they cannot be dyed. The style is chemically set and cannot be changed or trained. The only positive to synthetic hair extensions is if you live in a very sweltering and humid environment, you don’t have to worry about losing your curls or fizziness.  Even though they are a cheaper alternative to human hair extensions, if you wear hair extensions human hair is worth the investment.

Human hair extensions come in different grades and textures are more expensive than synthetic hair extensions, but look more natural to wear. Before I start discussing human hair extensions, I just want to clarify, if you purchase a low grade of human hair, your weave job may not come out the way you imagined. The highest grade of human hair to purchase is 5A grade human hair. It has been harvested from one donor and is virgin. Before you go getting your mind in the gutter, when they say virgin in the hair industry it means, never been chemically touched. The cuticle is aligned and flows in the same direction. The lowest grade of human hair is 1A. I would not recommend purchasing this grade of hair at all. It looks dry, brittle, and mattes very quickly. The only real difference between 1A grade and synthetic hair extensions is that you can use a curl or straightening iron. I would suggest purchasing 5A-3A 100% raw human hair extensions. They can last up to one year if you care for them the same way you would your own natural hair. Raw human hair extensions can be color treated or dyed. All human hair extensions can be curled or straightened. They’re also a number of styling options that you can chose with human hair extensions.

Ultimately the choice is your but if you are addicted to hair extensions, why not invest in the best quality for your money. Natural hair extensions can be installed more than once and with the proper washing and conditioning they can last up to one year. Remember knowledge is power, and that’s money in the bank!
